Benji Madden is married to 52-year-old The Holiday star Cameron Diaz, while his twin brother Joel is married to 43-year-old Nicole Richie, the daughter of singer Lionel Richie. It was Nicole who introduced Cameron to her future husband. The two celebrity couples, now relatives, maintain a close bond and often spend time together.
In a rare interview, 45-year-old Benji opened up about his relationship with Cameron. He emphasized how much he respects her, stating that he never allows himself to speak disrespectfully to her or ignore her opinions. Benji humorously admitted that he’s a little afraid of Diaz. “There are parts of my life that I manage, but there’s a huge part that wouldn’t work if she wasn’t managing it. She’s given me a much deeper, richer life by managing the parts of my life she does, and vice versa. We work together, but she’s strong. I respect her and am a little afraid of her,” explained the Good Charlotte back vocalist.
Joel, who also participated in the conversation, agreed with his brother. “Yes, we all respect our wives. They’re our absolute equals, and we all have a healthy fear of our wives. You don’t joke around with Nicole, for example. She’s my queen,” said Lionel Richie’s son-in-law.
Benji also spoke about independent, strong women who succeed in various fields, just like men. “When you think of strong women who are naturally strong, here’s the thing: they’re interesting because they don’t want to be with frivolous guys. They still need a strong partner, but you also can’t have too big of an ego to be able to compromise,” shared Cameron’s husband on Rob Lowe’s podcast Literally!.
Diaz and Madden have been together since 2014. They married in 2015 in a small ceremony at Cameron’s home in Beverly Hills. The couple has two children—a five-year-old daughter, Raddix, and a one-year-old son, Cardinal. For ten years, Diaz stepped away from acting to dedicate her time fully to her family, often saying that family is the most important thing in her life. Recently, she returned to the big screen with a role in Back in Action alongside Jamie Foxx.
