Experts suggest that the mesmerizing glow may have been caused by fuel remnants from the Falcon 9 rocket. At high altitudes, the fuel froze and then reflected sunlight, making it visible from Earth. The spiral shape occurred due to the rocket’s movement.
The strange occurrence quickly became a topic of discussion on social media, with users sharing photos and speculating about its cause. Astronomer Allan Trow confirmed in a comment that the likely explanation was the rocket launch.
The Falcon 9 launched on March 24th from a Florida spaceport as part of a mission for the U.S. National Reconnaissance Office.
