Vivienne Jenna Wilson, the daughter of inventor Elon Musk, is the first among the billionaire’s 14 children. Not only has she severed ties with her father, but she has also revealed shocking details about her birth.
In a recent post on Threads, Vivienne stated that her gender was “bought and paid for” and expressed outrage over the fact that gender selection during IVF (in vitro fertilization) is even allowed.
Vivienne, who was previously named Xavier, was born during Musk’s marriage to his first wife, writer Justine Wilson. The billionaire’s daughter shared that she was chosen as a boy because her parents took advantage of the option to select the child’s gender during IVF.
“My assigned birth gender was a commodity that was bought and paid for. So when I was feminine as a child, and later became transgender, I was going against the product that was sold. It was a financial transaction. How the hell is that even legal?!” Vivienne wrote.
This isn’t the first time Vivienne has openly criticized her father. In 2022, she officially disassociated herself from the Musk name and declared that she wanted nothing to do with him. Elon Musk has made several controversial statements about transgender people, and according to his daughter, he did not support her decision.
Gender selection during IVF is indeed a possible procedure, but it remains highly controversial from an ethical standpoint. It is banned in most countries, except for the United States and Mexico.
This story has reignited debates about the ethics of such decisions. Some believe parents should have the right to choose, while others argue that it turns childbirth into a commercial transaction. But one thing is clear: Vivienne is certain that her gender was chosen for her, and she will never accept that.
