Simon Fisher-Becker, the British character actor famous for his memorable roles in Harry Potter and Doctor Who, has passed away at the age of 63. His husband, Anthony Dugdale, announced his death on social media, though no cause was disclosed.

Throughout his versatile career in film, theater, and television, Fisher-Becker was celebrated for his ability to bring charm and presence to small but impactful roles. He portrayed the cheerful ghost Fat Friar in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (2001) and won the hearts of Doctor Who fans as Dorium Maldovar, the witty, blue-skinned alien who became an unexpected fan favorite.

Born in London on November 25, 1961, Fisher-Becker originally aspired to a career in music but discovered acting after playing Mr. Bumble in a school production of Oliver Twist. Though he worked in theater management and HR, he later pursued acting full-time, especially after losing a government job and enrolling in drama courses.

His role in Doctor Who marked a turning point. Initially hired for a brief scene, his character Dorium Maldovar resonated so deeply with audiences that he was brought back for additional episodes.

Beyond his iconic roles, Fisher-Becker appeared in numerous British TV shows and films, including Afterlife, Getting On, Puppy Love, and as part of the ensemble in Les Misérables (2012), performing in Master of the House.
