King Charles has shared a mix of his favorite songs, consisting of music that has “brought him joy” over the years – and artists like Bob Marley and Kylie Minogue were definitely unexpected choices.
The King teased the release in an Instagram video on March 6, hinting at an exciting announcement. In the clip, filmed at Buckingham Palace with the words “On Air” displayed on screen, he sits at a table as a palace brass band plays Bob Marley’s “Could You Be Loved,” followed by a snippet of the track itself.
After piquing the curiosity of royal fans, it was revealed that the monarch had curated a playlist of his favorite feel-good songs for the “King’s Music Room” on Apple Music, in celebration of Commonwealth Day 2025, which falls on Monday. The special podcast, recorded at Buckingham Palace, features the King discussing why he chose songs from beloved artists across the Commonwealth. He delves into what these songs mean to him and shares personal experiences and memories connected to various singers and tracks.
The King’s musical selection spans a wide range of genres, from reggae and pop to disco and afrobeat, with artists such as Bob Marley, BRIT Award-winner Ray, Kylie Minogue, Grace Jones, and Davido. Speaking about the significance of music in his life, King Charles, who ascended the throne in September 2022 after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, explained: “Throughout my life, music has meant a great deal to me. I know it does for many others as well. It has an amazing ability to bring back happy memories from the deepest corners of our minds, comfort us in times of sadness, and transport us to distant places.”

Highlighting the power of music to create happiness and unite people, the King continued: “But perhaps above all, it can lift our spirits to such a degree, especially when it brings us together in celebration. In other words, it brings us joy. It seems like such an interesting and innovative way to celebrate this year’s Commonwealth Day.”
King Charles’ collaboration with Apple Music, The King’s Music Room, will be available on the streaming platform starting March 10.
