In the world of showbiz, it’s not uncommon for ex-partners to speak out about past relationships. 41-year-old model Amber Rose opened up about how Kanye West controlled her style, imposing sexualized images on her, and explained why she believes he does the same with all his lovers.
During a podcast on Club Shay Shay, host Shannon Sharpe asked Amber what she thought about the current style of West’s wife, Bianca Censori, who recently appeared at the Grammys in a completely transparent dress. Amber wasted no time with her response: “Kanye is behind this. He did the same thing with me and Kim. It’s just his style,” she said.
According to Amber, it’s important for the musician that his girlfriends look as provocative and alluring as possible. “He likes it when other men desire his girl. It turns him on. He wants his friends to want to sleep with his woman. He wants her to be the most desirable when they walk into the room,” Rose added.
She admitted that when she was younger, she tried to meet Kanye’s demands, but deep down, it went against her true desires. “When I was younger, Kanye would buy me these clothes, and I did look cool. But if you look at old photos where I’m not with him, I’m always in his stuff. I wore his baggy jeans, t-shirts, jackets. I hated looking like… well, you know. When he wasn’t home, I wore sweatpants and sneakers,” said the 41-year-old model.
Sharpe reminded Amber of the famous incident when she wore a transparent dress while dating Kanye. The model couldn’t contain her emotions. “I cried. We were in Italy or Paris, and I remember begging him: ‘I don’t want to wear this, I don’t want to look like this.’ And he’d say: ‘You just don’t get it, it’s fashion. I’m a genius,’” she recalled.
After breaking up with Kanye, Rose continued to feel the impact of the image he had created for her. Last year, she mentioned that after their split, producers and directors only saw her as a sexualized figure because of what her ex had created. “I was always conservative. But when I started dating him, they turned me into a sex symbol. It was my first romance with a celebrity, and he loved fashion, so he made me dress very sexually,” the model explained.
Amber and Kanye were together from 2008 to 2010. They began dating when she was 24 and he was just over 30. According to the model, after their breakup, she had to constantly prove she wasn’t the woman people saw her as. “When I was alone, people wanted to see me the way Kanye made me. I was offered to shoot music videos by the pool, in a bikini, with a cocktail in hand. And I thought, ‘Oh my god, that’s so not me,’” Amber confessed.
