Some things never go out of style, and some looks remain iconic for decades. In a new video shared on her personal page, 43-year-old Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle appeared wearing the iconic purple Northwestern sweatshirt — exactly the same one Princess Diana wore in 1996.
Markle posted a short video filmed in the garden of their Montecito estate. In the clip, she smiles while wearing sunglasses, walks around the property where the children are watering the plants with a hose, and Meghan herself prepares a cocktail with an orange picked straight from the tree.
At one point, a child’s voice can be heard. “Mom, if you want, I can do this,” says little Archie. In the background, Prince Harry’s laughter is audible. “A little weekend break to enjoy the sun,” reads one of the video captions.
However, the focus was on the sweatshirt, which looks exactly like the one Princess Diana wore in the last years of her life. The original sweater was given to her in 1995 during her visit to Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, where she participated in a fundraising event for the Robert Lurie Cancer Center. Today, this sweatshirt is known as “Princess Diana’s sweater.”
For Meghan Markle, choosing this particular outfit may not have been a coincidence. She herself studied at Northwestern, earning a degree in theater arts and international relations in 2003. After graduation, she returned to Los Angeles to build her acting career and only gained fame a few years later with her role in the TV series “Suits.” Then, after meeting Prince Harry, she completely changed her life.
This video post is part of Meghan’s active return to the media spotlight. After years of silence, the Duchess of Sussex has already posted on social media nine times since the beginning of 2025, coinciding with the launch of her new show. In the project, she will take on a new role — as the host of a cooking show inspired by the comfort of family traditions.
