The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, has barely begun her return to the social media world with the launch of her new website and a picture of her daughter Lilibet, only to find herself embroiled in a scandal. Residents of a Spanish town have accused her of plagiarism.
The accusations stem from a logo Meghan used on the homepage of her new lifestyle brand, “As Ever.” The site will offer home goods, food products, personal care items, and more. However, locals from the Spanish village of Porreres (located in Mallorca) noticed that the brand’s logo closely resembled the town’s own crest, leading to accusations of theft.
The mayor of Porreres, Francesca Mora, stated that her team is investigating the matter with legal services to determine what actions should be taken. However, she also sees this as an opportunity to promote the village of Porreres.
“I don’t know if you’ve visited an agritourism farm and seen the crest, but the photo on your website was taken in Mallorca. I hope many people around the world now know that there is a town in Mallorca with this crest,” Mora said.
The town’s authorities have asked Meghan to remove the logo from her site, pointing out that the only difference between the Porreres crest and Meghan’s brand logo is the depiction of birds. Meghan’s logo features hummingbirds, while the town crest has either swallows or doves. As of now, Meghan Markle and her website’s developers have not responded.
