This day was the most important of my life. I was marrying the person I loved, and everyone I cared about was by my side. My mom’s presence was especially precious to me — she was the only parent who had always supported me.
When the music started, and it was time to walk down the aisle, I, full of excitement and happiness, looked around, searching for her gaze. But… my mom was nowhere to be found.
Panic gripped me. My relatives and friends and I started searching for her all over the hall, we went outside, peeking into every corner. But there was no sign of her.
As I passed by one of the rooms, I heard muffled sounds, like someone was calling for help. My heart tightened.
I pushed open the door and, listening closely, realized that the sounds were coming from a large wardrobe in the corner. I ran up to it and sharply opened the doors…
There was my mom. In her eyes, I could see both fear and relief at the same time.
“Sweetheart!” she sobbed, stepping out of the darkness.
I could barely understand what was happening. Who could do something like this?
The answer came too quickly. In the doorway stood my fiancé’s mother.
“Did you do this?!” I exclaimed, not believing my eyes.
The woman didn’t look guilty. She crossed her arms over her chest and simply pressed her lips together.
“You shouldn’t have married my son,” she said quietly, but firmly. “You’re not right for him.”
I couldn’t believe my ears. This woman had always seemed cold to me, but I thought that over time she would accept me. But she went this far!
“You ruined my wedding, but you won’t break me,” I said, squeezing my mom’s hand. “I love your son, and he loves me.”
I walked out of the room, leaving her there.
Despite the shock, the wedding went on. But I never spoke to my husband’s mother again. She removed herself from our lives. And you know what? It became easier without her.
Because now, only those who truly wished us happiness were by our side.
