“Cows Might Trample Me”: Kate Winslet Opens Up About Her Biggest Fear
The 49-year-old star of Revolutionary Road appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, where she shared her biggest fear for the first time: cows.
Winslet, who hails from England, revealed that her fear stems from advice she received in the past about how to behave around cattle. The impressionable actress took the warning to heart. “I was told to watch the herd’s behavior and be cautious. If cows are swishing their tails, tossing their heads, and flies are buzzing around, it means they might be agitated. If they stand and turn toward you, it could mean they’re about to charge,” Winslet explained.
The Oscar-winning actress loves hiking, but her outings are often overshadowed by anxiety when passing by cattle. She finds it hard to relax in nature, fearing the worst.
“I never thought I’d worry so much about this. I hike often, and many trails go through pastures with cows. In those moments, I’m gripped by a terrible fear that they might trample me,” she shared.
Winslet recounted a particularly unsettling encounter with a herd of cows. While walking with her mother, the animals began to follow them. “At first, they were slowly trailing us, but then they started galloping as if to catch up. In England, there have been many frightening incidents involving cows, so I always tread pastures with caution. I need to manage this fear better—after all, cows aren’t that scary,” the actress said.
In addition to discussing her fears, Winslet recently reflected on a different kind of challenge. Late last year, she opened up about the bullying she faced early in her career. The actress was often criticized for her supposedly “excessive” weight, and even a drama teacher once told her she would only play “full-figured” women.
Determined to prove her critics wrong, Winslet went on to become one of Hollywood’s most celebrated actresses. Today, she takes pride in herself, fully embracing and loving her beautiful, feminine figure.
