Before British soldiers and best friends Kevin Elliot and Barry Delaney went to Afghanistan, they made a funny bet. The essence of the bet was that if one of the friends was killed, the other would have to show up at his funeral in the stupidest dress he could find. The friends happily signed up for what they thought was a funny bet. In Afghanistan, Kevin and Barry served in different places, but continued to keep in touch, none of the friends even guessed that soon one of them would have to fulfill his promise. Unfortunately, Elliot died in Afghanistan, and Barry, a man of his word, kept the promise he once made to his friend.
When it was time for the funeral, Barry Delaney poured himself a glass, raised a toast to his dead friend and put on the silliest dress he could find. Barry also added neon pink socks to his outfit.
Barry’s dress looked very out of place at the funeral of a tragically killed soldier, but only to those who didn’t know the whole story. All of Elliot’s friends and family present at the funeral were aware of the friendly bet, so they treated Barry with the utmost respect.
A story about true friendship and duty that touches the depths of the soul.
