The much-anticipated ‘Jallikattu’, a traditional bull-taming sport, took place during Pongal at Avaniyapuram in Tamil Nadu.
As the bulls, coated in sandalwood paste, charged out of the ‘Vadivasal’, participants attempted to grab hold of the bull’s hump in a bid to win. Despite their efforts, many were unsuccessful, as the intimidating appearance and aggressive stance of the bulls left some tamers hesitant.
Sadly, the event also saw tragic moments, with a young man, Navin Kumar, tragically gored to death by a bull, while at least 10 others were injured.
In the end, the owner of the bull named ‘BEST’ won a tractor, while the top bull tamer received a car as a reward.
