Ansley Burns, a 12-year-old from South Carolina, wowed the judges on America’s Got Talent with her powerful performance of an iconic Aretha Franklin song.
The seventh-grader, who regularly sings in her school choir, chose to sing Franklin’s “Think” as a preview for Tuesday’s episode.
However, Simon Cowell, the head judge, paused her midway through, stating that the backing track didn’t suit her voice.
At first, Ansley felt unsure when Simon suggested she try performing a cappella instead.
To her surprise, Simon offered her a cup of water, and with the support of the judges and the audience, she gathered the courage to sing without the music.
Her solo performance left the judges in awe, with Julianne Hough and Gabrielle Union standing and applauding.
Since then, the video has gone viral on YouTube, with viewers praising Ansley’s vocal talent, resilience, and charm.
Many fans believe that Simon’s decision to interrupt actually brought out the best in her, allowing her voice to truly shine.
