The blind auditions on The Voice often create an air of mystery, with judges frequently caught off guard by the stark contrast between a contestant’s appearance and their voice. This was exactly the case when 14-year-old Jacob Norton from Colchester, Essex, auditioned for The Voice: UK and left all the judges in utter disbelief.
Jacob’s powerful singing voice stunned the panel, especially given his young age. For his audition, Jacob chose to perform Fred Astaire’s classic hit, “Puttin’ On the Ritz,” a song perfectly suited to his surprisingly deep voice, which made him sound much older than his years.
As the rich, deep tones of Jacob’s voice filled the room, judges Danny Jones, Will.i.am, and Pixie Lott were initially convinced it was some sort of prank. All three judges turned their chairs almost immediately, eager to see who was behind such a remarkable voice. The audience, equally amazed, erupted in applause, rising to their feet to cheer him on.
Jacob, while thrilled by the response, remained calm and continued his performance flawlessly. As the song picked up speed, he engaged with the audience, showcasing his growing confidence. His performance clearly left a strong impression, both on the judges and the crowd.
After finishing, Jacob’s demeanor shifted from professional to that of an excited teen, and he couldn’t help but jump for joy. The judges were clearly impressed, and their compliments poured in.
Pixie Lott remarked, “Your voice has such a beautiful depth… I don’t even know what to say! It’s unlike anything I’ve ever heard.”
Danny Jones added, “That voice is so amazing, we’re all lost for words right now. I think it’s awesome!”
Jacob took a moment to reflect on the judges’ feedback before choosing to join Team Danny. He openly admitted that he had been anxious about the audition but was overjoyed by the three turns he received. “I was so nervous and just hoping for at least one turn. When I got three, I was in shock because I thought I wouldn’t get any!”
