Originally written and performed by the Irish-Norwegian duo Secret Garden, the song was first released in 2002 with Brian Kennedy. At that time, he wasn’t well-known in the UK. However, it was Josh Groban’s version in the US that truly captured the public’s attention, becoming an international hit.
The song’s universal appeal lies in its powerful and emotional lyrics. It has become so beloved that it’s often played on television, performed by figure skaters, and even serves as the anthem for a Norwegian football team.
Its heartwarming message resonates with everyone, reminding us of those who supported and encouraged us through tough times. These individuals helped us reach achievements that we often take for granted, and for that, we’re grateful.
Most recently, YouTube sensation Peter Hollens shared his version of the song. He began by performing it solo, and then a talented choir joined him, transforming the song into an even more beautiful and moving rendition. The angelic voices of the ensemble added a layer of depth, with an a cappella arrangement making the performance even more dramatic.
