The actress shared an unexpected regret that has followed her since her teenage years. Nicole Kidman recalled a moment when she turned down an opportunity to work with one of the greatest directors of modern times, Jane Campion.
“She invited me to star in her student film. Jane came to a play where I was performing in Tennessee Williams’ ‘Sweet Bird of Youth,’ and she chose me,” began the actress from Batman Forever. However, at that time, young Nicole decided to decline the offer because her character was supposed to wear a shower cap on screen. “I was afraid of looking ugly. What a huge mistake!” she noted, smiling as she remembered her youthful naivety.

Despite this episode, fate eventually brought the two talented women together in the professional world. Years later, Nicole played the lead role in Jane Campion’s film The Portrait of a Lady. They later worked together again on the miniseries Top of the Lake, where Kidman once again demonstrated her exceptional acting skills. “I am incredibly grateful that we found a way to collaborate creatively, but that incident with the shower cap has remained in my memory forever,” she admitted.

This story of a missed opportunity came just weeks before the Golden Globe ceremony, where Nicole may win an award for Best Actress. In Bad Girl, she portrayed Romy, an ambitious CEO who embarks on a romance with a young intern. “It was a bold, complex, and emotionally charged role. I always like to challenge myself and discover new facets of my abilities,” the actress shared.
Kidman is one of four Australians nominated for an award this year. Other nominees include Cate Blanchett, Naomi Watts, and Guy Pearce. “We feel incredible support for one another, especially at such major events. It’s a unique feeling to represent our country,” Nicole emphasized.

Nicole continues to surprise audiences and critics with her career choices. Her ability to balance her personal life—with her husband, musician Keith Urban, and their two daughters—and her busy career remains an inspiration for many. “My family is my strength. They give me the energy for new projects,” the actress confessed.
Recently, the star of Cold Mountain took an important step—reconciling with her adopted children, Isabella Jane and Connor Anthony.
