David Lynch believes he is living out his final days. In a conversation with RadarOnline.com, the famous director admitted that due to his lung disease, caused by years of smoking, he “can barely walk across the room,” and requires supplemental oxygen for most everyday activities.
“It’s like walking with a plastic bag over your head,” Lynch lamented, urging smokers to quit before it’s too late.

Lynch started smoking at the age of 8 but didn’t fully realize the seriousness of his addiction until 2020, when he was diagnosed with emphysema. Speaking about it on social media, he confessed to having mixed emotions:
“Yes, I have emphysema from years of smoking. I have to say, I really enjoyed smoking, and I love tobacco—the smell, lighting cigarettes, smoking them—but you pay a price for that pleasure, and for me, that price was emphysema.”

The director revealed that meditation helped him quit smoking:
“I haven’t smoked in over two years. I recently had a number of tests, and the good news is I’m in great shape, except for the emphysema. I want you all to know how much I appreciate your concern.”
In recent months, David Lynch has been confined to his home. Doctors have advised him not to leave the house for safety reasons— even a slight cold could be life-threatening for the director.
