The actor from *It’s Complicated* and director of successful films, John Krasinski, admitted that he avoids social media due to an unsettling experience he had 20 years ago. He shared how comments in online chats “scared him to death” and led him to completely stop reading internet comments.
Krasinski recalled how, on the set of *The Office*, the cast would discuss what people were saying about them online. Their computers were connected to the internet, and colleagues would visit forums and sites like MySpace and IMDb. “Jenna [Fisher] would always check to see what people thought about the show. She’d say, ‘Guys, everyone loved last night’s episode!’ And we’d all look too. I saw a few comments and thought, ‘Oh my God, why did I do that?’ I never went back again. Never,” John said.
Since then, Krasinski has steered clear of social media. Despite having millions of followers on his accounts, he doesn’t respond to comments. His wife, actress Emily Blunt, doesn’t use social media at all, explaining that she wants to keep her private life just that—private.
John also shared a funny story about the moment he first realized his fame. It happened during the second season of *The Office*. “I didn’t even know what an iPod was when a guy approached me on the street, showed me his screen, and said, ‘Look, you’re on my iPod.’ I looked at the tiny screen and thought, ‘This is either fame, or this guy’s about to kill me. But either way, he knows who I am,'” Krasinski joked.
He noted that over the past 20 years, social media has changed drastically, with even more negative aspects than before. “Those chats already scared the hell out of me. I can’t even imagine how bad it is now,” he said. However, despite his skepticism about online platforms, John continues to use them solely for work and promoting his projects, maintaining a balance between his public and personal life.
Recently, Krasinski was named *Sexiest Man Alive* by *People* magazine, a title that took him by surprise. “I thought it was a joke. I don’t wake up thinking, ‘Today, they’re going to call me the sexiest man.’ But the day came, and you guys raised the bar for me,” he confessed.
As for a bit of drama, it turned out that John received the title after two other Hollywood actors turned it down.
