A woman was surprised when a retriever started showing up at her house regularly. The dog was clearly well-cared for—well-groomed, not hungry, and wearing a collar. It would simply lay down on the carpet near the door and fall asleep as soon as she entered her home. The next day, the same thing happened; the dog returned, greeted her, and slept peacefully. This pattern continued for several days, and the woman became curious about why the dog kept visiting.

One day, after another peaceful nap, the woman found a note attached to the dog’s collar. The note explained that the dog had a family and was well taken care of, but it had taken a liking to her house. The owner of the dog admitted that the retriever frequently came over to sleep and rest. The note read: “This dog has six children at home, the youngest just under three years old. He just wants to rest, and I was wondering if it would be okay for him to nap at your house tomorrow as well?”

Intrigued, the woman decided to write a response and attached it to the dog’s collar: “I’d like to know who owns this sweet dog. Are you aware that your dog visits my home daily, sleeps for a few hours, and then leaves again?”
The dog’s visits continued for several weeks, and the woman eventually learned more about his family, leading her to a surprising understanding of the dog’s strange behavior.
