On October 25, 2024, King Felipe, Queen Letizia, Crown Princess Leonor, Infanta Sofia, and former Queen Sofia attended the 2024 Princess of Asturias Awards ceremony at Teatro Campoamor in Oviedo. This year, the award for the Arts was presented to Spanish singer Joan Manuel Serrat, recognized as a major figure in modern popular music in both Spanish and Catalan.
Other recipients of the awards included French-Iranian novelist and cartoonist Marjane Satrapi; Spanish badminton player Carolina Marín; former Canadian Official Opposition Leader Michael Ignatieff; Romanian poet and essayist Ana Blandiana; Canadian endocrinologist Daniel J. Drucker; molecular geneticist Jeffrey M. Friedman; endocrinologist Joel F. Habener; researcher Jens Juul Holst; and chemist Svetlana Mojsov.
