Adele interrupted her performance at the Colosseum in Las Vegas when she spotted her favorite singer, Celine Dion, in the audience.
In a video that went viral online, Adele broke down in tears upon seeing Dion in the crowd. She hugged the Canadian singer tightly, and then Dion kissed Adele’s hand before letting go and returning to her seat. Tearful, Adele continued to sing “When We Were Young” while her sons comforted her. At the end of the song, she said, “Please welcome Miss Celine Dion,” prompting the legendary singer to stand up to thunderous applause from the audience.
“It really felt like she was proudly passing the keys to Adele. When Adele embraced her, everyone felt the same emotions she did,” said one concert attendee.
The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, where Adele has performed multiple times, was originally built for Dion’s debut show in 2003.
In 2022, Dion announced that she had been diagnosed with Stiff-Person Syndrome, which forced her to postpone her “Courage” tour, initially scheduled for spring 2023, to 2024, and then ultimately cancel it.
Stiff-Person Syndrome is a rare neurological disorder that affects one in a million people. There is no cure, but the condition can be managed with injections of special antibodies, anti-anxiety medications, and muscle relaxants.
Dion has previously shared on social media how the illness impacts her life. According to the singer, she has faced difficulties walking due to spasms. She also can no longer use her vocal cords to sing like she used to. Her sister mentioned that Dion has lost control over her muscles.
A recent documentary titled “I: Celine Dion” features footage of the singer’s battle with the illness, including scenes of her experiencing severe spasms.
