The 56-year-old singer of “My Heart Will Go On” made her first public appearance since performing at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympics in Paris. Celine Dion wowed guests at the City of Hope’s Spirit of Life Gala in Los Angeles, earning a standing ovation. She presented the honorary “Spirit of Life” award to Jay Marciano, the chairman and CEO of AEG Presents.
Dion wore a velvet dress with sheer sleeves and a matching turtleneck. She styled her light locks into a bun and opted for smoky eye makeup, pairing her outfit with high-heeled shoes for the occasion.
“It’s a great honor for me to be here tonight, participating in this wonderful and important event. This is my first time back on stage since I was at that tower,” she playfully referenced her performance at the Eiffel Tower during the Olympics.
Celine, who has been battling muscle stiffness syndrome for the past two years, also took the opportunity to express her gratitude to the biomedical treatment center for providing hope to patients.
“It helps people during their most difficult and challenging times. It’s so important. It gives the most valuable ingredient—hope. And I know how important that is. I understand that in our beautiful lives filled with family, joy, and love, we can also face tremendous difficulties and great tests of faith and strength. For many of us who go through this at some point, what a joy it is to gather together in this hall tonight to do everything we can to help spread this great gift of hope.”
In 2022, Celine revealed that she was diagnosed with a neurological disorder—muscle stiffness syndrome, which causes muscle tension and spasms. She had previously vowed to return to the stage despite her struggles, saying she would perform “even if she had to crawl.” Her last concert was during her Courage World Tour in Newark, New Jersey, on March 8, 2020, after which she canceled the tour due to the coronavirus pandemic.
