It all started when we started exploring the house while the boxes were still unpacked. We were pleased with the new appliances in the kitchen and the sunlight streaming through the tall windows in the bedroom. But there was a strange vintage piece in the living room that immediately caught our attention.
This piece of furniture stood in the corner next to the fireplace and looked like an unusual bookcase with intricate patterns and fine carvings. However, its purpose remained a mystery.
We wondered if it was a shoe rack or a book stand, but none of these guesses fit.
A week after we moved in, an elderly couple from the neighborhood who had lived in the area for a long time dropped in. While drinking tea, one of the neighbors suddenly noticed that very object:
“Oh, you’ve left the newspaper girl, Mrs. Allison! How nice to see her,” he said.
We were surprised to learn that it was a newspaper rack. It turns out that the previous owner, Mrs. Allison, loved to read newspapers and magazines, and this rack was her favorite place to store them. A neighbor recalled seeing this item often at evening tea parties at Allison’s house.
