Madonna has lost her younger brother, Christopher Ciccone, who had been battling cancer for a long time and died at the age of 63. The singer herself reported this on a banned social network.
Having published a number of archive photos with Christopher, who, by the way, was an artist, designer and former dancer, the pop diva outlined the history of her relationship with her brother and all the obstacles they had to overcome together. She also assured that she did everything possible to save him and keep him alive as long as possible.
He was the closest person to me for so long. It’s hard to explain our connection… It grew out of the understanding that we were different and that society would be harsh on us for not following the status quo. We held each other’s hands and danced through the madness of our childhoods. In fact, dance was like the superglue that held us together. Discovering dance in our small Midwestern town saved me, and then my brother came along and it saved him too… When I finally got the courage to go to New York to become a dancer, my brother followed me. Once again, we held each other’s hands and danced through the madness of New York! We danced together on stage early in my career; over time, he became the creative director of many tours… He was an artist, a poet, and a visionary. I admired him. He had impeccable taste. And a sharp tongue, which he sometimes used against me, but I always forgave. We’ve reached the highest heights together. And fallen into the deepest hell. Somehow we always found each other again, held hands, and kept dancing »
Madonna also added that the last few years have not been easy. For a while, her relationship with her brother was strained, but after he was diagnosed with cancer, they managed to restore communication. “Towards the end, he was in a lot of pain. We held hands again, closed our eyes and danced. Together. I’m glad he’s not in pain anymore. There will never be another like him. I know he’s dancing somewhere,” the singer concluded touchingly.
