Invested $40,000. Architect Renovates Old Village House and Turns It Into Stylish Home

At a certain point in her life, Tatyana Sinitsyna felt that the time had come to make her long-cherished dream come true: a corner away from the bustle of the city, where there would be only peace and nature. After a long search, luck smiled on her: a wonderful place without intrusive neighbors, away from the city, with a panorama of the forest and a picturesque farm. The house, despite its shabby appearance, had a solid foundation and retained an atmosphere of antiquity, reminiscent of Belarusian huts.

Before the renovation, the house did not stand out much from the other village buildings. It was well-kept, but time had left its marks on it. The main mission was to adapt the house to Tatyana’s comfort and preferences.

Her desire to be as close to nature as possible was expressed in the desire to increase the glass surfaces, for this reason most of the façade was replaced with glass.

We started with basic work: laying a water pipe and creating a heating system. In the end, the choice fell on a modern fireplace, a stove and Internet convectors for heating.

To preserve the atmosphere of a cozy country house, a layer of wallpaper was removed from the walls, revealing the old wooden frame. It was carefully processed and preserved in its original form. It was decided to do the same with the floor, which only needed minor repairs and renewal of the coating.

Furniture deserves a special mention. Old pieces of furniture were also purchased with the house. Some of them were restored and harmoniously integrated into the new interior, preserving the spirit of the times.

As for the exterior finish, Tatyana wanted to preserve the original look of the house. For this reason, innovations were minimal, the main focus was on preserving the original color and decorative elements.

The roof was puzzling.

Almost the entire roof needed to be replaced, but the base remained intact. Initially, a metal roof was planned, but in the end, a wooden one was chosen.

Inside, thanks to the glass pediments, an almost completely “transparent” bedroom was created.

And although the results of the work are impressive, the house and its owner still have a lot to do, as the renovation process is not yet complete.

At the final stage, it would be interesting to delve into each room separately.

Guest corner

As already mentioned, the decision was made to combine old furniture with new elements. Thus, a cozy gray sofa and a couple of coffee tables appeared in the guest corner.

Dining area

Here, the focus is on the round table, surrounded by recently updated black chairs.

Food preparation area

The kitchen set is made in soft white tones, complemented by a dark-colored counter. Considering the spaciousness of the room, it was decided not to install upper cabinets. Everything you need for culinary experiments is at hand.

Bathroom

The highlight of this space was the glass decorative elements.

Place of rest

In the upper part of the house there is a sleeping area and a small relaxation corner.

What was the result?

The interior of the house was designed with an emphasis on individual preferences, so some design solutions may seem unexpected. However, in the end, we have a project of a cozy house with a unique atmosphere, which will probably bring joy and comfort to its owner.
