For every 700-800 children in the world, there is one child with Down syndrome, a condition caused by the presence of an extra chromosome that affects the development of the body and brain. Children with Down syndrome are called “sunny” because they are very kind and affectionate. These children, raised in normal families, surrounded by care and attention, have every chance of a normal life.
Unfortunately, despite their positive qualities, such children lag behind in development and require special care, which not all parents are ready for. When this test affected the family of 33-year-old Evgeniy, his wife decided to leave the family. So Evgeniy became a single father raising his little Misha, who suffers from Down syndrome. An inspiring story of a strong man who was not afraid.
Evgeniy says: “When I learned about my son’s diagnosis, I cried. Then I thought: Nothing has changed in my life, I still have two arms, two legs, my professional knowledge is still there. My determination, activity and curiosity are all with me. Everything happened as I planned! I had a son! But the child is special, his life is more important than anything! And here I am crying! I am responsible for him! After all, Down syndrome is not the worst thing that can happen!”
Evgeny started searching the Internet for information about Down syndrome, learned about Evelina Bledans and her son Semyon. “I learned that in Europe, people with Down syndrome are well socialized, can live and work independently. The young father did not even consider abandoning the child, but his wife was not ready for such a turn of events, she left, abandoning her husband and son.
Evgeniy was left alone with his son and never regretted his choice, although there were plenty of difficulties.
Evgeniy regularly shares stories about his life and raising Misha on his Instagram account. He wants to raise awareness of Down syndrome and support families who face similar challenges.
Evgeniy appeals to everyone: “I want to support and inspire with my example those people who are or will be in the same situation as me. Don’t be afraid, everything will be fine!”
