🪑✨ From drab to fab! This woman took her mother-in-law’s old chair and turned it into a stunning masterpiece. The transformation is so incredible, it’s hard to believe it’s the same piece! 😲
Furniture used to be made conscientiously. Our parents, grandparents still have furniture items that were made in the 70s and 80s, or maybe even earlier. The armchairs were especially good. They had pleasant shapes, were light, comfortable and durable.
They are still in the hands of the older generation and are not going to retire. Such chairs are eternal, only the upholstery has lost its appearance. So you can already call them antiques.
You can’t throw away such furniture, it needs to be restored. My husband’s mother has two such chairs. I have already remade one. Only she put it in the living room, because she feels sorry to use it, and she sits in front of the TV on the old one.

We took this chair for restoration and gave my mother-in-law a new one.
It took some work to remove the lining, because it was nailed with steel nails and then glued. You immediately understand that it was made in the USSR, because everything was really made to last for centuries.

The seat is bolted to the wooden frame with six bolts.

The soft parts are nailed together with three large nails.

All of this was unscrewed, pulled out and disassembled. The foam rubber, despite many years of use of the chair, remained in good condition, did not crumble, only slightly flattened and yellowed.

We took new 4 cm thick foam rubber and fixed it on top of the old one.

For the chair, we purchased upholstery of different colors in the store, 80 cm each.

The armrests were already painted black, there were some drips in some places, I sanded all these defects with sandpaper. I completely changed the color to the opposite – white.

I cut out the new upholstery using the old one. I attached it to the planks using a stapler. This is not soft pine, but a more durable species, possibly maple.

All that was left was to reassemble everything. The seat was fastened with three long screws, which replaced nails. It was installed on the frame and screwed in place.

There are no difficulties in remaking such a chair, all the holes are there. You just need to stretch the fabric well.

When we returned the chair to my mother-in-law, she didn’t even realize that it was her old one.
