Kirk Douglas passed away at the impressive age of 103, leaving behind an estimated $61 million fortune that he mostly donated to charity. The Mirror reported that the Douglas Foundation is planning to distribute $50 million to St. Lawrence College (which is Douglas’ alma mater), Westwood’s Sinai Temple, the Kirk Douglas Theater, and Los Angeles Children’s Hospital.

The foundation’s stated mission is to “help those who are otherwise unable to help themselves.” Despite his humble beginnings as the son of Jewish immigrants, Douglas gave back to many deserving causes, including his old high school in Amsterdam, New York, and various initiatives in Southern California and Jerusalem.

While it’s uncertain where the remainder of his fortune will be directed, rumors suggest that Michael Douglas, his famous actor son, will not be inheriting any part of it, along with his two other less famous sons. Given Michael’s own estimated net worth of $300 million, it seems clear that he doesn’t require the additional funds. Furthermore, the decision to donate his fortune to charity was not unexpected, as Douglas and his wife had discussed their foundation and their intention to support charitable causes in a 2015 interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
