On Facebook, Emily, the granddaughter of the couple you see in the photos, shared the last photos of her grandparents together. In the pictures, they are kissing and holding hands while her grandmother lies in a hospital bed.
Although these are her final moments, they are also a “special message of love.” Until the end, Emily’s grandfather remained by his wife, the love of his life, his companion for 60 years. In this way, he fulfilled his promise to be there for her through thick and thin.
“In the last months of my grandmother’s life, I was fortunate to witness something majestic: the unconditional love between my grandparents,” Emily wrote.
She admitted that the family often joked that the grandfather would not be able to survive without his companion, as she was the support of the house and did everything for him. But the grandfather coped, he was always there, supported his beloved woman and took on all the responsibilities.
“He accompanied her to all her doctor’s appointments, held her hand during chemotherapy so she wouldn’t feel alone,” Emily continues. She was especially touched by his care, kindness and love for her grandmother.
“It made me realize that the most romantic love story is not Romeo and Juliet… it’s the story of my grandparents growing old together and sharing everything. My grandfather stayed by my grandmother’s side during the hardest times of her life.”
