However, Lopez and Affleck, who are currently undergoing their divorce proceedings, are fortunate in this regard. Lopez has two children—twins Emma and Max—while Affleck has three—Violet, Seraphina, and Sam—and all of them were born from their previous marriages. They do not share any children together, so it’s highly unlikely that one will claim custody over the other’s children. Therefore, disputes over children are not expected.
Instead, Jennifer and Ben face a different issue, which will be challenging to resolve. The most frustrating part of the situation is that this problem might have been avoided if they had shown even a modicum of foresight two years ago.
The crux of the issue is that Lopez and Affleck, unlike many high-profile celebrities, chose to marry without a prenuptial agreement. As a result, they now face a long and arduous process of dividing their assets and financial holdings. While they will likely agree that each will retain what they owned before the marriage, the division of property acquired during their two years of marriage is inevitable. Although it seems straightforward to sell everything and split the proceeds equally, the situation is far more complicated.
For instance, one of Affleck’s most significant acquisitions during this period is the film production company Artists Equity, which he founded in 2022, just two months after the wedding. Notably, he did not establish it alone but with his best friend Matt Damon, who owns over 50% of the company’s shares. Neither Affleck nor Damon intends to sell their successful venture.
Whether they can find enough funds to provide Lopez with a fair settlement remains uncertain. Moreover, Matt Damon’s involvement complicates matters further. Damon has been vocal about his lack of enthusiasm for Lopez and Affleck reuniting 17 years after their first attempt to build a family failed. Damon believed the reunion was doomed to fail and his less-than-friendly attitude towards Lopez is likely to complicate the upcoming negotiations.
