The opening ceremony of the XXXIII Summer Olympic Games took place in Paris. Lady Gaga performed there. Saint Laurent creative director Anthony Vaccarello slammed her number.
The singer’s appearance on stage provoked a fashion scandal. The star performed the composition Mon truc en plumes by the Frenchwoman Zizi Jeanmaire, almost repeating her number with pink fans. Zizi’s costume was designed by Yves Saint Laurent, with whom she was close friends.
However, Lady Gaga came out in a Dior outfit. One of the sponsors of the Olympics was the luxury conglomerate LVMH, which is owned by Natalia Vodianova’s father-in-law. Bernard Arnault attracted almost all brands, including Dior.
Saint Laurent creative director Anthony Vaccarello was shocked by the singer’s number and outfit. He sharply condemned such a repetition of the image of the fashion house entrusted to him, which is part of another conglomerate – Kering.
“What a shame, no self-esteem left,” Anthony wrote. He accompanied his message with a sketch of Jeanmaire’s original outfit. Vacarello tagged Lady Gaga and opening ceremony art director Thomas Jolly in his angry post. The publication was soon deleted, but by that time it had already spread across the Internet.
Celine Dion, who was seriously ill, also performed at the opening of the Olympics. Her appearance was met with applause.
