Celine Dion’s heartbreaking diagnosis of Stiff-Person Syndrome, a rare neurological disorder of unknown origin, prevents her from singing, dancing, and sometimes even moving. After canceling all her planned tours and concerts, Dion decided to no longer hide her condition from the public.
“I wasn’t ready to share my struggles before, but now I am,” Celine revealed to her fans. “My health has long been deteriorating. And all this time, it has been very difficult for me to come to terms with it. To face reality and explain everything I am going through.” She had been suffering from sudden muscle spasms, including in her vocal cords, which were accompanied by excruciating pain. The condition even led to rib fractures, with an unknown force in her own body seemingly trying to choke Dion. The singer lived on painkillers and muscle relaxants while continuing to dedicate herself to her music.
“I know I should have stopped earlier. But my husband was also fighting for his life. I had to raise our children and hide my condition from everyone. I was trying to be a hero. I asked myself: ‘Why? Why did this have to happen to me? Is it my fault?’” Celine’s words were filled with despair, her eyes welled with tears. Yet, there was also a determination to continue fighting and not give up. “There were times when I could barely walk or perform routine daily activities.
My children began to notice everything. And I thought: they’ve already lost their father, would I really leave them without a mother? So I told them, I promised that I’m not going to die. I will learn to live with this condition. I will do everything in my power to return to the stage. But I have to be not just in good shape, but in excellent shape. I need to give 100% in my shows because you deserve it.”
