Altair, a silver Maine Coon, has made it into the Guinness World Records. He is known as the domestic cat with the longest tail in the world. The fluffy feline belongs to Dr. William John Powers from Farmington Hills, Michigan, USA. The five-year-old cat weighs 9 kg and has a tail that measures 40.83 cm in length.
Will first met Altair after losing all his cats in a fire in 2017.
“When I was ready to get cats again, a breeder told me that a litter had been born, and among them was a silver kitten, a brother to my previous and now late cat, Swan,” Will said.
Since then, Altair has been waving his luxurious tail around Will’s home. By the way, Swan, Altair’s brother, also had an unusually long tail that grew throughout his life. He was the previous record-holder for the longest tail.
Like Swan, Altair “talks” with his tail. He uses it to express his mood, curiosity, frustration, or other emotions.
Incidentally, Will’s other cats have also been record-holders. For example, Arcturus still holds the record for the tallest domestic cat in history.
Will celebrated Altair’s achievement by buying him several new cat items, including a giant wheel, some new cat furniture, and other luxurious items.
