Four-year-old Zara from the Czech Republic has reached Everest Base Camp, the highest base camp in the world, located at an altitude of 5,364 meters. Zara has become the youngest climber to achieve this feat. The previous record was held by a 5-year-old boy from India, but it was broken in early January.
According to Zara’s brother on Instagram, she found it relatively easy to tackle the elevation and even surpassed other climbers, most of whom began their ascent from the airport in Lukla. The total route covered exceeds 270 km, with a total elevation gain of over 20,000 meters.
“There were no problems during the ascent; acclimatization went above average. Little Zara, thanks to her very good physical condition, even surpassed, with a few exceptions, hundreds of other trekkers who also mostly started their climb from the Lukla airport. It’s worth noting that conditions in the lodges, or so-called ‘lodges,’ are very limited and not warm; in the bedrooms, it was sometimes even below -10°C,” Zara’s brother shared.
He also explained that this remarkable climb was made possible for little Zara thanks to her parents’ upbringing. From an early age, they focused on developing her mental and physical skills in the manner of tribes leading an original way of life. Specifically, Zara lived in rural Malaysia and had to navigate through dense jungles daily, covering 5-10 km with elevation changes of 300-600 meters. In total, she trekked over 2,200 kilometers through the jungle in 2023.
