Beautiful, with a promising modeling career and a partner she adored, Australian lady Turia Pitt had a life many envied at the age of 24. On September 2, 2011, though, everything drastically altered.
Turia and others were trapped as an unexpected fire spread over the area during a 100-kilometer cross-country competition.
She dashed through the flames in a desperate attempt to escape, suffering serious burns that covered 65% of her flesh and resulted in the loss of digits on both hands.
Michael, Turia’s boyfriend, stood by her side during her difficult recuperation, and he finally proposed to her in spite of her scars.
Turia returned to athletics in spite of her initial concerns, doing incredible things, including finishing a half marathon and raising money for plastic surgery procedures.
Her bravery and tenacity won her praise from all quarters, and she was recognized with titles like Woman of the Year and magazine covers.
Now that Turia and Michael are parents, Turia still embraces life to the fullest and is lively and energetic despite her bodily changes.
