More than a decade ago, a run-down house with overgrown plants, neglected grounds, and a $700 price tag was found by a couple who found a hidden gem. It was clear that this may have been a charming holiday house nestled close to a river and forest, even in its rough form. They knew that this was their final opportunity to get out. The first thing to do was to tackle the overgrown plot. They cleared the undergrowth, manicured the grass, and got to work sprucing up the house. The plan of the property was then displayed, showing a planned vegetable garden with areas designated for flowerbeds and lawns. A green hedge was chosen for the barrier.
There was no water supply at the time; therefore, drilling a well was their top priority. The spouse took the initiative and constructed a well-thought-out well cover, a refreshing outdoor shower, a practical storage shed, and a pergola. He created much of the dacha furniture by hand, and his carpentry skills were on display on the porch, terrace, and balcony.
To provide water, they built a seasonal pipe that was connected to the well. A basin heater pounded hot water into the kitchen sink. The wastewater is received in a small pit. Price, functionality, and aesthetics were all important considerations during the project.
The inventive couple even reused old doors and windows for their summer shower; the wife added beautiful Roman curtains. Despite its small size of 36 square meters, the dacha features a cozy design with a bedroom, living area, kitchen, veranda, and little patio. Their first major landscaping project was a beautiful pond and alpine slide. To create a stunning arrangement, stones were gathered from various locations, and conifers were grown from cuttings.
The dacha’s seasonal displays include a vibrant display of primroses in the spring, a burst of color with irises, roses, and lilies in the summer, and a show of dahlias and chrysanthemums in the fall.
The largest financial expenditure was the $500 roof repair. There were few expenditures on furnishings and gardening materials, but nothing else. However, the true value lies in the immense amount of love, imagination, and labor that went into this project. This contented couple has high expectations for the future of their beloved dacha.
Warm winter nights are spent brainstorming, ensuring that each spring will bring creative additions and fresh concepts to their cherished retreat.
