Steve Jobs, the late tech genius, and Lauren Powell had the oldest child, Reed Jobs, on September 22, 1991. On his father’s side, he is related to two siblings and a half-sister.
One interesting fact about Reed is that his name honors Portland’s Reed College, where his famous father attended for a short time before starting his business. Steve Jobs made sure his kids respected academic performance even after he stopped attending formal school, but he placed a lot of emphasis on real-world experience. Reed’s father felt that his high school experience was more instructive than traditional business studies since it gave him the chance to engage in extensive conversations with prominent tech people and Apple executives.
Reed was inspired to pursue a career in medicine at an early age, especially after learning that his father had cancer. This inspired him to apply for a summer internship at Stanford University’s medical department at the age of fifteen, to really improve cancer therapy. Reed was initially motivated to become a doctor, particularly when his father passed away while he was a Stanford student, but he found it difficult to follow this route.
In the end, Reed changed his course of study, earning a history and international security degree from Stanford University in 2014 and going on to get a master’s in the same field. Steve Jobs did not live to witness his son’s academic achievements; he passed away in 2011.
Following graduation, Reed committed his career to the progress of cancer therapy, a cause near and dear to his heart considering his father’s struggle with the illness. When he first started working for his mother’s charitable organization, Emerson Collective, he focused his efforts on investments in cancer research. Later, partially inspired by his father’s early reliance on complementary and alternative medicine, Reed founded Yosemite, a venture capital firm focused on cutting-edge cancer medicines. Reed’s private life is still mainly private; the media has not revealed any information about his marriage or interactions with the public.
Like his father, Reed would much rather keep his personal life out of the spotlight. Instead, he focuses on his career aspirations and the opportunity for medical discoveries to alter the world, rather than getting sucked into the transient world of celebrity rumors.
