Denmark: modern life in a house from 1740 – an amazing mix of times

Modern Life in a House from 1740 – Witness the Remarkable Fusion of Past and Present!

Such houses usually immediately attract the attention of tourists and filmmakers. If there had been a movie in the Middle Ages, this is exactly the kind of footage that would have reached us.

These houses are usually not very expensive, even those located on tourist routes. Their maintenance is not easy, because the older the building, the more expenses will have to be invested in maintenance and repairs. But this does not scare many people, but on the contrary, it attracts them with its novelty.

For example, a house from 1740 in the city of Norberg (Denmark) has 7 thousand inhabitants. Although it is a modest-sized settlement, this town is an industrial center with the headquarters of an international company.

The house, which had been renovated for three hundred years only in 1991, did not change the interior: wooden floors, ceiling beams, furniture in excellent condition.

Currently, the home is owned by a 78-year-old woman. After being widowed in 2018, she moved in with her son, an employee of a local large company. The widow does not want to sell the house under any circumstances and spends the night here several times a week, remembering the fifty years they lived together with her husband.

Let’s go inside a house with a unique history and layout. Every corner of this house is decorated with love. People lived here who took care of each other and their homes.

The structure is built on a hilly landscape and has a three-level structure: main floor, attic, basement. Each has its own functional purpose and features.

On the main floor, the kitchen, living room, and dining room are combined into a single spatial area. The kitchen is also located here, and despite its rare use, it is still cozy and warm.

There are two rooms in the attic – a bedroom and the husband’s former office. The decor is quite modest, but not devoid of coziness. For spouses there are two single beds.

The basement is an amazingly functional floor. There is a garage, a bathroom, and a utility room with household appliances. There is a separate entrance from the street, but you can go down from the house. Previously, everything here was much more comfortable, but since the owner rarely comes here now, a lot of things have been removed.

The bathroom is modest, but everything is at hand and comfortable. There is a utility block nearby where they wash, dry and iron clothes.

If you go around the house from the other side, its appearance shows that even with changes in height, only the attic part is always visible.

Once upon a time, the adjacent area was ideal, but now, due to the rare visits of the owner, almost all the street furniture has been removed. An elderly lady rarely goes for walks, and it is better to keep old furnishings indoors for safety.

This house is a symbol of a bygone era, a place where historical events and personal memories intertwine. What a pity that the times when the power of the owners of this home flourished are passing. Everything ends someday, but it’s a pity for the creations of human hands that were made with soul.
