This tiny house with an emerald roof grew up in a remote place on the very edge of the Finnish village of Sauvo, which is home to no more than three thousand people. Despite the fact that the house is located on the outskirts, the area is not considered remote – the neighboring city of Turku is half an hour away. Our main character, Tia, a 30-year-old girl, and her dog Taika live here.
Tia made the decision to move consciously and independently. The girl did not have enough money to live in Helsinki. Her parents are farmers who live here, Tia began to live independently in her own house.
My father helped calculate the project and build a private house measuring only 18 square meters with an attic of 5 square meters. m. The construction budget was extremely limited: Tia bought the most inexpensive building materials, leftovers from batches, and illiquid units.
The green roof was sold to her at a good discount due to the lack of demand for the color. The boards were lying in my father’s barn; the neighbors gave away the front door.
Tia has been living in a miniature, almost fairy-tale house since 2021 with her three-year-old dog, adopted from a shelter.
The house was built without a foundation, but only placed on a platform, which will allow it to be transported to any place if necessary.
The construction lasted 6 months, the bulk of the work was carried out by the father, but the girl herself did not lag behind and took an active part.
Tia doesn’t find village life much of a challenge. She is a kindergarten teacher and commutes to work by bicycle.
“It turns out that building a house is not so difficult,” says Tia, but she regrets that it was not possible to allocate a room for a bath, there is too little space.
The first floor is a kitchen, living room, toilet. Tia loves to decorate her interior and does it all the time. She has a mini-library and a vinyl player.
The kitchen is decorated with fabric, a sliding door separates the toilet from the kitchen.
To find ideas for her project, Tia researched mini-homes around the world and some of the ideas came to life in her home.
The attic is completely occupied by a bedroom with a bed, and there is also a place for the dog. The main heating is heated floors, the stove is needed as a backup heat source in extreme cold.
The girl’s future plans include installing a bathtub, but for now she has to live without it.
Tia’s budget house has become famous throughout Finland. Many people now know about him.
