Restoring Heritage: The Resplendent Gothic Revival Home of Steve and Joann Paul in Wichita

Before

Steve and Joann Paul’s Gothic Revival home in Wichita, Kansas, underwent a stunning transformation, reclaiming its proud heritage as a Painted Lady with a revived woodwork and vibrant color palette.

After testing 18 paint swatches, the couple settled on a five-color scheme from Sherwin-Williams. The base color, Garden Sage, provided a fresh backdrop for the architectural elements. Accents in darker-green Meadow Trail, cinnamony Tanbark, and golden White Raisin added depth and character to the exterior. The front door and smaller details were highlighted in Carriage Door, adding a touch of elegance.

The porch was also revitalized, with the couple salvaging most of the old columns and posts. They replaced the outdated balustrade and diamond-patterned skirting with more traditional woodwork made from rot- and termite-resistant Spanish cedar. This update not only enhanced the porch’s aesthetic appeal but also ensured its longevity and durability.

Overall, the Pauls’ attention to detail and dedication to preserving the home’s historic charm resulted in a stunning transformation that breathed new life into the 1886 Gothic Revival house.
