Upon acquiring our 1905 Victorian home, we were captivated by its original interior features—hardwood floors, intricate trim, and breathtaking pocket doors—that spoke of its rich history. However, the exterior presented a stark contrast, cloaked in uninspiring white aluminum siding that obscured the home’s true character. Determined to unveil its hidden beauty, we embarked on a restoration journey.
With original drawings in hand, we began the meticulous process of removing the aluminum siding, hoping to reveal the home’s original cedar lap siding underneath. Our prayers were answered as we uncovered the weathered yet salvageable lap siding, a testament to the craftsmanship of yesteryears.
After
The restoration extended beyond mere siding removal. We replaced the screened-in porches on the first and second stories with elegant wood columns, restoring the home’s grandeur. Additionally, we meticulously recreated a set of grand steps leading up to the front porch, enhancing its curb appeal and welcoming charm.
One notable transformation involved reclaiming a half bath and transforming it back into a porch, seamlessly integrating indoor and outdoor living spaces. For four weeks, from sunrise to sunset, we dedicated ourselves to the restoration process—scraping, sanding, repairing, priming, and painting—until our beloved Victorian lady emerged in all her original splendor.
Today, as we stand before our meticulously restored home, we are filled with pride and joy, knowing that we have honored its history and preserved its timeless beauty for generations to come.
