Designer Jeremy Clark vividly remembers his initial encounter with this 1980s condo in Nashville’s West End, sensing its untapped potential despite its dated appearance. The space, once owned by Betty Ann Hadley, sister of renowned designer Albert Hadley, held promise with its classic features like high ceilings and traditional moldings. However, it required a modern touch to suit the downsizing needs of new owner Linda Hummell.
Maintaining reverence for Albert Hadley’s legacy, Clark embarked on a mission to honor the condo’s history while infusing it with contemporary upgrades. With assistance from contractor Pamela Leonard, they reimagined the floor plan, preserving iconic elements like Hadley’s jib doors while enhancing functionality.
In the living room, a fresh coat of Benjamin Moore’s White Dove provided a blank canvas for Clark to weave a tapestry of patterns and textures, accented by built-ins to showcase Hummell’s treasures. The kitchen received a monochrome makeover, blending modern amenities with timeless black-and-white aesthetics, while subtle nods to Hadley’s style added a touch of nostalgia.
