How they renovated a 35 m² one-room apartment on a small budget.

We did without redevelopment, partially used existing furniture, and found the light on Avito.

Briefly

This small apartment of 35 sq. m is located in a typical brick house. Designer Alexandra Sakmarova was asked to make “cosmetic repairs” to it for delivery. The main task was to meet the minimum budget, but to arrange everything beautifully. The apartment already had a wardrobe and no sofa – they decided to leave it that way: the area for receiving guests is located in the kitchen, and the room has a full bedroom.

There was no redevelopment; all partitions were left in place. The kitchen has an oven, hob, extractor hood, and sink. There was no dishwasher initially; it was added, but it was without a front. We separately ordered a facade with similar panels and painted it in the color of the main kitchen. We also decided to remove one of the wall cabinets and make shelves.

The walls are plastered and painted white. The problem with the apartment was that it was quite dark, especially in winter there was not enough light. White walls and ceiling plus bright colors solved this problem. The floor is covered with quartz vinyl, as it is a fairly wear-resistant material. The warm shade of the flooring balances out the large number of blue shades in the furniture. Paintings serve as wall decor.

“I wanted to use lamps whose design is rarely seen, I was looking for unusual shapes. Therefore, most lighting items were purchased on Avito. In the hallway there is a Soviet plate chandelier with a geometric pattern. This is already the third plate, a cat jumped on the first and broke it, the second was broken when installing the door,” says the designer.

In houses of this series there is a niche in the room; a bed is often placed there. Here the owners decided to make a wardrobe in the niche, since a lot of storage space was required, and a work desk also fit there.

A separate dressing room is separated by sliding doors. The wardrobe was assembled at IKEA. There are many storage drawers on the narrow side, as they are more convenient than regular shelves. There are separate sections for jewelry, accessories and shoes. When each item has its own storage location, cleaning becomes easier. The distances between the shelves were adjusted to the size of the storage boxes.

Separate bathroom. The freestanding toilet was replaced with an installation, and a storage cabinet was installed on top. The decoration uses color blocking, highlighting one wall with color, and the floor has tiles with a black and white pattern. Black faucets also add a graphic touch.
