Before and after: transformation of a one-room studio apartment.

In three months, the owner of a dull and featureless one-room studio turned her home into the apartment of her dreams. How did she do it? Read in this article.

A studio apartment can be a real gift of fate or, conversely, turn everyday life into torture. A well-planned one-room studio is almost certainly a success that even the best friends will involuntarily envy.

However, a few mistakes in planning – and you no longer know what to do with the constant cleaning, uncomfortable open and impersonal space. But there are a few tricks that help you avoid common mistakes when decorating a studio apartment. Designer Gala Marino knew exactly what needed to be done to bring style and individuality back to her new apartment. The result she managed to achieve exceeded her wildest expectations!

A chance to realize your dream

As a designer, Gala was making a project for herself for the first time, and not for a client. Her love is open modern spaces filled with air and light. According to Gala, design for life should be primarily applied. Simple shapes, soft colors, unpretentious textiles, so that every time a guest sits down on the sofa with a glass of wine, the owner does not flinch in fear for the expensive upholstery. Comfort and convenience, plenty of light and a properly organized storage system are the keys to the success of a small one-room studio.

Clean, simple, modern

White is the main color. Bright accents in the decor are a must so that the studio does not turn into a hospital ward. Gala did not neglect the zoning of the space. Thus, a white chest of drawers separates the bedroom area from the living room, and in addition, thanks to its compact size, it fits perfectly into the interior and does not create barriers to natural light. Pay attention to the details – bold prints on the walls, a colorful rug, indoor plants to go with wooden pots, a bright green jewelry box. These little details and color accents create atmosphere, emphasize individuality and attract attention.

The furniture in Gala’s apartment is very simple, from IKEA, but it was chosen very correctly. Weightless white shelves, a hanging rack, a coffee table on thin legs – the furniture seems to float above the floor and supports the designer’s idea.

Happiness to be at home

Like any young woman living in a big city, Gala Marino has a lot of personal belongings. However, her house is always in perfect order. This is another essential component of the success of a studio apartment. Mesily scattered things or a vacuum cleaner “hidden” in the corner means only one thing – the impression is spoiled. “Before choosing curtains, think about where you will hang your jacket.” It’s little things like that that make an impression.

Windows provide an open, clear view of the entire house. No plants on window sills, heavy curtains or draperies. Lightweight roller blinds that can be lowered in exceptional cases. The rest of the time, nothing prevents natural light from entering the room. Not even the brightest lamp can replace soft sunlight, which creates an incomparable atmosphere in the room.

Gala sincerely admits: “I feel good here. I feel truly happy in this house because it is one hundred percent mine.”
