Before and after: stylish kitchen on a budget.

Stylish kitchen renovations don’t always require big expenses. To save money, you can do some of the finishing work yourself, and buy furniture and appliances as part of a promotion with a big discount.

To transform a dull kitchen into a stylish and bright space where the whole family will happily gather for dinner, you don’t have to hire a designer and allocate a huge budget for it. They saved a lot of money on the renovation of this kitchen: the owners did most of the finishing work themselves, and bought furniture and decorative items at a discount. But can you guess this by looking at the bright and light design project of this kitchen?

Starting point When the new owners of the house in Canada – a married couple with three children – first moved in, the kitchen design was a mix of different colors and materials: the walls, with the exception of blue niches, were painted beige, and a rectangular dining table occupied almost all the available space. The large window was covered with a black and white curtain, and the overall interior looked overloaded.

The owner of the house, decorator Alana South, set herself the task of making the kitchen brighter and more comfortable: for this she had to redecorate the walls, replace the countertops, and paint some furniture. At the same time, a fairly modest budget was allocated for repairs – about $500.

Economical finishing

First of all, the walls in the kitchen were repainted: thanks to the combination of white and light gray colors, the room immediately began to seem more spacious. At the same time, the owner bought paint on sale at a 40% discount. An even more expressive effect was achieved by removing the curtain: now natural light is evenly distributed throughout the entire kitchen space.

The wood furniture was painted white, and the dark wood countertops came from IKEA. A new sink and stove were also purchased at big discounts, and the owner painted the toaster yellow to give the room an expressive color accent.

Finishing touch

Even though the kitchen was much brighter and cozier, the space still felt overcrowded. To get rid of this effect, the hostess sold the dining table and chairs and spent the money on buying a new set. As a result, a round yellow table appeared in the center of the dining room – no less comfortable than its predecessor, but more compact and suitable for the new interior.
