It’s hard to believe that this house didn’t look at all beautiful when the current owners first saw it.
Among the villas and apartment buildings that line the quiet suburb of Boros, Sweden, the log house looked a little strange, but David and Anna immediately realized what it could become. They felt cramped in the city apartment; they wanted to be closer to nature. And their three-year-old son Adam is better off outside the city.
Having bought a house, the Johanssons enthusiastically began preparing to move. They decided to paint the yellow pine facades black, as had been done for centuries in the Scandinavian countries. Black color attracts the sun’s rays – this gives additional warmth during the cold season.
The interior was made white, like most Swedish apartments. Thanks to this, it became light, airy and bright even in bad weather. The black floor creates an impressive contrast with the white walls and gives the furnishings a graphic clarity.
Nevertheless, Anna and David are not entirely satisfied with the flooring and continue to improve it: sanding and tinting it to make it smooth, like the mirror of a forest pond.
Other work continues: in the near future the couple intend to install façade lighting, which is not so easy. Next in line are the bathrooms. David also plans to level the sloping area around the house.
When filling the house with things, Anna boldly combines finds from flea markets and sales with furniture from chain stores and is not afraid of budget solutions: for example, the Johanssons made the headboard themselves.
What home owners love most is the peace of mind it gives them. The reason for this is not only the peaceful combination of colors, but also the life principle that both adhere to. “We leave all the negativity at the door,” David laughs. – Because happiness is not outside, but inside. This is one of the Buddha’s lessons.” It’s not for nothing that the Johanssons placed it at the entrance to the house!
