Kitchen remodel in Scandinavian style.

It took a lot of time to renovate this kitchen, but now it looks like a picture from the cover of an interiors magazine. See how the owners managed to achieve this result.

Hélène Pinault and Julien Schwartzman are a couple of architects from Strasbourg who decided to move to Paris and open their own firm, Heju.

The guys moved into  a small apartment in the attic, repaired all the floors and painted the walls white. At first, the budget and time were only enough to decorate the bedroom, but the kitchen remained untouched.

And only when the couple reconsidered their views on the arrangement of the kitchen, they managed to completely transform it. The guys calculated the main expenses, and we converted them into rubles – scroll to the end of the post to see the estimate.

What did the kitchen look like before the renovation?

Cramped space and low ceilings are some of the best ways to describe this kitchen, but the owners loved it at first sight.

About repairs

The guys decided to update everything, right down to the wiring – it was too old. As in the entire apartment, the walls were repainted white and the floors were patched up.

We decided to buy cabinets from Leroy Merlin – they offered more options than IKEA. Moreover, the architects lined the cabinet doors themselves with birch plywood. At the same time, they decided to do without handles: instead, they drilled small holes.

In order not to overload the tiny space, the guys made cabinets only at the bottom, and decorated the walls with laconic shelves made of the same plywood. Under them there is a small panel with hooks for kitchen utensils – a convenient solution.

They made a kind of apron around the perimeter of the cabinets: they painted part of the wall with light gray washable paint.

We purchased the plumbing from IKEA; we didn’t skimp on the faucet – we chose a brass one. It looks great in a bright interior.

Household appliances were chosen with a laconic design so that they would not look too pretentious against the background of simple facades. There was even a place for a washing machine: it was hidden behind the doors.

The only thing the guys really spared no expense on was a round solid wood dining table. And they didn’t regret it one bit: you often have to pay for quality.
