How did you renovate an apartment that is already 200 years old?

This two-room apartment is located in one of the oldest districts of Gothenburg – Haga. See how you can decorate a modern apartment while maintaining the layout and stucco of the 19th century.

The designers did not do major renovations to the apartment in order to preserve the atmosphere. They left an exit from the kitchen to a cozy courtyard, emphasized the height of the ceilings and deep window niches, and also restored the double doors, which had not been changed since the house was built.

The kitchen is designed in a modern style, where the main thing is functionality and minimalism in everything. A wide work surface, built-in, almost invisible appliances and plenty of storage space make the kitchen convenient. And the tea tree color insert on the apron dilutes the white interior. 

An arch leads from the kitchen to the living room, which has also been preserved. There are a lot of bright details here: metal lamps, black leather furniture , bright paintings. Due to the calm background, they look harmonious with the stucco on the ceiling.

Large 19th-century double doors lead from the living room to the bedroom. The designers decided to leave them and restore them.

The spacious bedroom has a high double bed , a built-in wardrobe that covers the entire wall and  a work desk .

The bedroom has a lot of stucco, so the designers decided to highlight this with thick velvet textiles and a massive Art Deco chandelier .

The bathroom is small but comfortable. There was a place for the most important things – a shower stall, a sink with a cabinet and a wall cabinet. 

The hallway is tiny, but black tiles near the entrance zone the space and separate the hallway from the corridor. And the hanger built into the niche makes the hallway also comfortable.
