The decorator created a simply stunning interior in a dream house.
Our heroes purchased a ready-made country house at the end of 2018 and in just a month and a half they turned an empty box without communications into a cozy nest. Elmira told us how they did it.
About the beginning of country life
The house was a new finished empty box on a 3.5 acre lot. Frame construction on concrete piles is a common practice for the uneven, hilly, multi-level coastal region. The territory of the land plot was not fenced, the two-story house did not have any communications: no electricity, no water supply, no sewerage, no heating.
The interior is lined with false timber, plastic windows (in the living room the central windows are panoramic to the floor), laminate flooring, wooden ceilings, only two rooms have a suspended ceiling, there is a balcony, a porch – like a mini-terrace, two bathrooms with large windows in each and heated floors in each tiles.

But despite all this, the house immediately fell in love with us! With its fresh smell of wood (the inside of the house is lined with false timber), a beautiful Scandi-style facade, large panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows on the ground floor, a lot of sun in all rooms – it’s small, cute and very neat.
About the start of repairs
We began to create comfort and atmosphere ourselves in a very short, limited time. Within our small budget, we came up with a concept and supported the essence of country life in the interior design.
Initially, of course, we proceeded from the layout of the building as a whole, but much was changed to materials and configuration that were more pleasing to us. They demolished a small appendix that blocked off the large windows from the hall. We created a common kitchen-living room space. We replaced the suspended ceilings, which smelled like synthetics, with wooden ones.
We painted the walls with a special light impregnation in ivory color (while preserving the wood texture and protecting it from mold/dampness/fungus), and laid a light-colored laminate flooring. We installed tiles in the bathrooms and on the splashback above the kitchen work area. Of course, we added technical equipment: heated floors in two bathrooms, installed a water heater, and installed electric heating along the entire perimeter of the building on both floors.

About the style of the house
The house is inspired by Scandi style, but with a friendly mix of other eclectic styles. There are many handmade items in the house (ceramic dishes, kitchen utensils, cutting boards, cabinets). Plus Soviet household items with history (retro chairs, rattan furniture, a German bedside table, an elegant console from my grandmother). All this goes well with modern details from the mass market.

About the layout
If we talk about the layout, I want to say again that we did not design the house ourselves, we did not come up with the layout of the rooms, but we bought a ready-made structure.
The main entrance is through a small veranda-porch, the floor of which, for convenience, was tiled to match the texture of wood. Then we find ourselves in a very small but cozy corridor. To our regret, according to the plan there is no dressing room, a spare room that would serve as an intermediate stage between the house and the street. Where you can leave dirty shoes and outerwear after the yard. In country life, this moment is important, because there are things to go to the city, to work and study. And all family members have a set of clothes for the local area.

About the kitchen-living room
The large room on the first floor is a combined kitchen-living room, plus there is a staircase to the second floor. We really like the idea of a large single space and it is wonderful for everyday use. There is visual zoning here: a relaxation and reception area, a dining area and a cooking area. It’s very convenient for our life scenario: the children are always nearby and within sight, we play and communicate, even when I’m cooking and busy with household chores. In this large space there is always a lot of both fresh flowers in vases (without a special occasion or a festive occasion) and green plants in pots.

About the guest bedroom and bathroom
Also on the ground floor we have a technical bathroom, we also call it for guests. There is a shower, toilet, sink, washing machine and water heater for the whole house. On the one hand, the room serves as a boiler room and laundry room, on the other hand, all our guests use it. There is a room next to the wall for the comfortable accommodation of our guests. Friends can stay overnight or close relatives from other regions of the country can come and bask in the sun by the sea.

About the second floor
On the second floor we have three bedrooms: our matrimonial room and each son’s own children’s room. Plus there is our hygienic bathroom for the family. I love taking a bubble bath, with salt and candles. There is also a small but cozy balcony.
We love our home. It gives us energy, resources, inspires, and unites the whole family. The house often smells of fresh baked goods, loud laughter, cheerful music and dancing can be heard. Decorator’s tips on how to develop good taste
You don’t just need to have taste, you need to have your own taste. Because someone else’s will cost a lot of money.
Good taste is like a muscle that can be pumped and developed. Good taste can be learned! And here’s what you need for this:
- want to be surrounded by beauty;
- stand out from the general background;
- don’t be afraid to experiment;
- be inspired by the world;
- abstract from social influence;
- filter the information field;
- connect your intuition to the accumulated aesthetic experience (everyone has a sense of the magnificent);
- and most importantly, act without regard for others.
