Second life of old furniture: cool ideas from our designers.

Don’t rush to say goodbye to walls and carpets. Designers are confident: they can be used in a modern interior.

We are accustomed to disdaining old furniture and at the first opportunity we try to get rid of it, but in vain. We tell you how to successfully decorate an old chair or cabinet.

1. Carpet

The USSR has always had a special relationship with wall hangings, but they deserve a second chance. The most successful option is to put grandma’s colorful carpet  on the floor , as Oksana Panteleeva did . In order not to dazzle the eyes, it is better to keep the remaining interior details in monochrome.

2. Wall

The advantage of the wall is that it usually consists of several sections – you can arrange them in any way you like. You can use one narrow vertical section to store utensils in the kitchen, and use open shelves in the living room.

By the way, if you repaint the doors, the cabinet will change beyond recognition, and if you leave it in its original form, it will give the room a cozy and vintage atmosphere.

3. Chair

You don’t even need to invent anything with an old chair – it can look great in almost any interior on its own. If you want changes, you can upholster it with fabric with a bright pattern, use covers  , or simply cover it with fabric, as designer Natalya Anakhina did.

4. Chest of drawers

A very functional item that greatly solves the storage problem. It will fit perfectly into a room with smooth light walls – it doesn’t matter if it’s a bedroom, kitchen or living room. For lovers of shabby chic , we advise you to cover the old chest of drawers with white paint, and for those who want more sun in their apartment, to cover it with leftover wallpaper .

5. Table

It can look completely different depending on whether you place it in  a minimalist interior or want to create the atmosphere of an antique office. In the first case, such an object will stand out and attract attention; in the second, it will become an organic part of the environment.

6. Lamps with shades, chandeliers and floor lamps

Such lamps look especially good in an eclectic interior . Unusual chandeliers and massive lampshades become a bright detail, make the room more interesting and can completely change its mood.

If you want to increase the emphasis on them, hang several of these lamps nearby or even remove the fabric from the lampshade and decorate the frame with bright elements.
